Creating Opportunities for Youth in Hospitality
Middle East and Africa
Hilton Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Hilton Addis Ababa’s Hotel School Trainee Programme (Ethiopia) grants hospitality students real-time exposure and training to careers in the industry. It also serves as a prominent recruitment tool for future Team Members.
Every year, the Hilton Addis Ababa grants more than 150 hospitality students with a three month apprenticeship — contributing to the professional development, training and skills enhancement of men and women. In the three month period, students are assigned to one of various departments within the hotel (i.e., Housekeeping, Food and Beverage Operations, or Laundry) where they perform and assist Team Members with basic daily tasks. The programme enables students to hone key skills and gain a competitive edge to secure a future career in the hospitality industry. Furthermore, it creates a highly-skilled workforce that can help grow Ethiopia’s economy.
Hilton Addis Ababa’s Hotel School Trainee programme is for men and women majoring in hospitality and interested in securing a position in the industry.
Team Members at the Hilton Addis Ababa bring this programme to life through a partnership with Hawassa University, which identifies qualified apprenticeship participants. Partnerships with other Ethiopian universities and higher education institutions have also been established to help increase workforce development and training in the country.
Ramses Hilton, Egypt
The Job Trainee Programme at Ramses Hilton (Egypt) provides courses and practical training to students and recent hospitality graduates to help them secure employment in the hospitality industry.
Founded seven years ago, the Job Trainee programme at Ramses Hilton is a unique training programme designed to provide hands-on training and day-to-day exposure to the Food & Beverage and Kitchen departments of the property. Head Chef, Dimitrios, and Kitchen Team Members design one month curriculums and courses for each of the talented Egyptian apprentices. During the programme students participate in various courses and workshops to acquire industry knowledge (e.g., Pastry Workshop, Food & Beverage Course, etc.). Courses and workshops are led by the hotel’s Head Chef Dimitrios and Pastry Chef Aziz. Since its inception, 20 new chefs have graduated from the programme.
The programme is designed for college students or recent college graduates with an interest in hospitality, particularly the Food & Beverage and Kitchen Departments.
Ramses Hilton partners with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism which nominates 32 apprentices for the Job Trainee Programme each year.
