Hospitality Industry Offers Solutions To Youth Unemployment Crisis According To New White Paper
At a time when more than 75 million young people can’t find jobs, and countless more are underemployed, investing in opportunities for youth is not only a critical development issue but also a growth strategy for businesses around the world. In response to this challenge, Hilton Worldwide will announce at the World Economic Forum a commissioned white paper from the International Youth Foundation (IYF) that highlights solutions to youth joblessness that the global hospitality sector is uniquely positioned to provide.
Global Hotel Leaders Celebrate One Billion International Travelers and Call for “Smart Visas” to Facilitate Travel for Next Billion
Two hospitality giants – Hilton Worldwide and Marriott International – addressed global business and travel industry leaders today at the World Economic Forum in Davos to urge governments to move quickly to adopt “Smart Visa” policies which stimulate global travel, create new jobs and spur economic development. The two companies represent more than 7,000 hotels in 90 countries, which include 600,000 employees at these owned, managed and franchised properties. They are working together with the World Economic Forum Governors for the aviation, travel and tourism industry to promote global action toward “Smart Visa” policies regionally by 2015 and globally by 2020.

Hilton Worldwide promoted its commitment to local volunteerism by hosting the company’s first Global Week of Service Nov. 11-18. The event highlighted the projects of Hilton’s approximately 300,000 employees at more than 3,900 locations, which include rebuilding community centers, mentoring young people, restoring natural habitats, and helping military veterans in need.

Hilton Worldwide announced today the appointment of William F. Kornegay, Jr., senior vice president, supply management, to the executive committee of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) Board of Directors. In this role, he will help influence the development of Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American suppliers and supplier diversity best practices across NMSDC’s corporate membership of 3,500, including most of America’s largest companies, in support of the organization’s 16,000 certified minority-owned businesses of all sizes.
