Hilton Worldwide today pledged its commitment to promote equal opportunity for women by signing the CEO Statement of Support for the Women’s Empowerment Principles. The Principles are the result of collaboration between the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Global Compact and offer guidance on how to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.
Today at the 2014 World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting, Hilton Worldwide announced a global commitment that aims to impact at least one million young people by 2019 by helping them to reach their full potential.
In response to Super Typhoon Haiyan that devastated the central islands of the Philippines, Hilton Worldwide has set up a disaster relief matching program for Team Members and Hilton HHonors members to support recovery efforts. Funds donated will support the ongoing provision of immediate relief, including emergency shelter, healthcare, water, sanitation and tracing and restoring family links, and also towards eventual recovery support to the affected population.
Hilton Worldwide celebrated the company’s annual volunteer campaign completing more than 2,400 volunteer projects in over 700 cities in 72 countries throughout the month of October. Now in its second year, Global Week of Service is Hilton Worldwide’s largest annual volunteer service event which recognizes the company’s service and volunteer culture and strengthens the communities Hilton Worldwide serves.
Hilton Worldwide Releases Annual Corporate Responsibility Report Meets Water Reduction Goal Ahead of Schedule
Hilton Worldwide today unveiled its annual Corporate Responsibility Report, noting that it has met another companywide sustainability goal ahead of schedule as well as made progress against the company’s full range of sustainability and responsibility commitments. Through continuous improvement and corrective action among its more than 4,000 hotels, Hilton Worldwide achieved its five-year goal to reduce water consumption by 10 percent and waste output by 20 percent in 2012, one and two years ahead of schedule respectively and continues its progress toward its goal to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions by 20 percent by the end of 2013. Since 2009, efficiency projects have resulted in cumulative savings estimated at more than a quarter-billion dollars.
Hilton Worldwide Team Members have spent this week spreading the light and warmth of hospitality, while helping to improve the communities where they live, work and travel. On day six of Hilton Worldwide’s Global Week of Service, Team Members led more than 165 service projects around the world, ranging from refurbishing residential homes and community centers to helping preserve a national landmark. All events were focused on creating long-term local impact as part of the company’s efforts to Travel with Purpose™.
