December 1999 Merger between Hilton Hotels Corporation and Promus Hotels Corporation completed and Embassy Suites Hotels, Doubletree Hotels, Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites, and Homewood Suites officially become part of the Hilton Worldwide, creating one of the world's largest, strongest hospitality organizations.
September 2002 Doubletree Hotels launches Teaching Kids to CARE, as part of the systemwide revival of the brand's longstanding CARE Culture business philosophy. To date, the program has taught more than five million grade school students the importance of citizenship and social responsibility at schools and youth organizations in 250 cities worldwide.
